Open Farm Sunday 2015 – our best yet!

With beautiful weather, large crowds and lots of farming fun, we enjoyed a fantastic day on Sunday 7th June when we once again took part in Open Farm Sunday. This year was extra special as it was not only the 10th anniversary of Open Farm Sunday but we also had a record turnout with 2,500 visitors flocking through our gates to enjoy all the activities we had put on.

What’s more, we managed to raise over £670 through refreshment sales and a raffle which we have donated to the Parent and Carers Support Organisation, a super local charity that supports families who have a child with a disability by providing respite care.

Families and visitors got the chance to enjoy a range of activities running throughout the day including tours of the dairy with Chris and his team, a chance to meet the farm vets and watch the cows being milked, wildlife activities with Manhood Wildlife Project and mouth-watering cookery demonstrations by Rosemary Moon. (You can find her recipes for ice cream sauces here.) We also had lots of people coming to see our ice cream parlour to watch our ice cream being made before getting to sample some for themselves!

There were plenty of other refreshments available including a delicious BBQ supplied by Nik Westicott of The Old Greenhouse, Fishbourne and cream teas that had been donated by Marks and Spencer.

Lots of local businesses also supported the event by donating some fabulous prizes for the raffle including West Dean Gardens, Covers, The Blacksmiths, Blackdog Nursery, Bartholomews, West Dean College and Goodrowes of Chichester.

By the afternoon, the front lawn was packed full of visitors relaxing in the sunshine while enjoying their ice cream and refreshments – the perfect end to a great day!

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited and all those that helped out at the event, particularly Marks & Spencer for their ongoing support of Open Farm Sunday. We look forward to next year!
